Spring Camping In North Dakota
In North Dakota you never really know what kind of weather spring is going to bring, so when the forecast looks good you have got to take advantage. This June weekend wife and I loaded up the kids and the camper and the whole family headed for Turtle River State Park.
We’ve been to this park several times in the past, usually just for hiking day trips, but we hadn’t actually ever checked out the campground portion of the park. We were very happy with how nice the campground and facilities were, and it was amazing to have some extra time to hit the trails with the kids.

A lot to see, not a ton to do
While we enjoyed our weekend at Turtle River State Park, I don’t know that we will be hitting it a lot in the future on camping trips, it feels more useful for hiking day trips since it is so close to Grand Forks and there isn’t much to do outside of hike and mountain bike on the trails. I love the trails there, but with the kids being as young as they are they aren’t ready for long days hiking just yet.
Overall Turtle River State Park gave us a wonderful weekend of camping. It was the perfect nearby destination to take our first trip of the summer with the camper in case there were issues after the camper had been stored all winter. We had lovely weather and even lovelier campfires!
